Google Earth time lapse shows Raleigh's changes since 1984

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) - An interactive map released by Google allows users to see the dramatic changes the Raleigh-area has experienced since 1984.

Five satellites were used over the last 30 years to collect images of the Earth. Google's Earth Engine then combined more than five million images to help create the time lapse.

In the Raleigh area, users can see the explosion of growth since 1984.

The formation of RDU International Airport, Crossroads Plaza, and Morrisville's sudden growth can be seen.

Also, users can watch at Interstate-540 begins to take shape as the years roll by.

The map can be moved to see images across the globe since 1984.
