HOPE MILLS, N.C. (WNCN) - One person died following a head-on collision between a tractor-trailer and SUV on Interstate 95 northbound near Hope Mills, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on I-95 northbound near exit 40/U.S. Route 301 when a Pepsi truck and an SUV slammed into one another head-on.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed that a woman who was in the SUV was killed in the crash, but they did not provide her identity.
Authorities said the woman was traveling south in the northbound lanes when she slammed into the Pepsi truck.
“The Pepsi-Cola truck should have an in-cab video with it. As soon as we can get a look at the video that will help us (to determine) as far as if she came across the median or was in the northbound lane traveling south," N.C. Trooper Sgt. C.M. Hardee said.
The highway was shut down until about 12:45 p.m.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation suggests that anyone needing to travel on that section of I-95 instead take exit 40 to U.S. 301 northbound and then continue onto U.S. 301 northbound to N.C. Highway 59 and take a right onto N.C. 59 and continue to re-access I-95.
