DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) - Just 22 years old, Zaena Graham died in an early-morning crash Sunday.
Durham police said Graham was a passenger on a dirt bike when it hit a car around 4:30 a.m. Both Graham and the driver, William Lorenzo Jr., were thrown off the bike.
Police said neither of them had on a helmet.
Today, Ebony Greene, Graham’s cousin, wishes she could talk to her one last time.
“It just breaks my heart because she had called me, video-chatted me, a couple of hours before the accident and I just wasn’t able to pick to up the phone at that time,” Greene said. “I just wish I would’ve answered the phone.”
She said they saw each other every day.
“That was like my best friend,” she said. “That was my sister. I was the one she called when she needed anything. I had her back. I told her I had her back no matter what.”
Graham did an interview with CBS 17 almost two weeks before she died. She talked about the controversial dress code at Kickback Jack’s restaurant. Greene said Graham was dropping her off at work that day.
Always outspoken with a big presence, Greene said that’s what she is going to miss the most about her.
“My cousin was a big part of my life,” she said. “A big part. It’s going to be a dramatic change for me.”
Durham police say Lorenzo Jr. is in critical condition.
Graham leaves behind a 2-year-old son.
