SANFORD, N.C. (WNCN) - A Lee County High School student is facing charges after a loaded gun, ammunition, and knives were found in his car in the school's parking lot, officials said.
A Lee County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer saw two knives in plain view in 18-year-old Jake Marion Young's vehicle, a news release said.
School officials then conducted a search of the car. According to the release, two hunting-style knives were found in the passenger area of the car. A semi-automatic pistol and three loaded magazines were also found in the trunk.
Officials said Young was arrested at the scene. He is charged with felony possession of a firearm on school grounds, as well as misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school grounds. He is being held on a $10,000 secured bond.
The release also noted that the weapons were locked in Young's vehicle while he was on the school's campus, and that he made no threats.
