Murder 'witness' arrested in connection to Halifax County case

HOLLISTER, N.C. (WNCN) - A man who initially presented himself as a witness in a murder case has been arrested in connection with it, deputies say.

The murder of 33-year-old Roderick Bluesky Mills was reported on April 11 at about 1:25 a.m. Javon Oneil Richardson called 911 and was on the scene when responders arrived, but is now charged with common law obstruction of justice.

The release from the sheriffs states that Richardson presented himself as a witness, but was "deemed to be uncooperative by detectives." He was told not to leave the jurisdiction of Halifax County.

Richardson had told investigators he was visiting Hollister from Maine. They learned Monday he was returning to Maine.

"The authorities in Maine will be assisting in the arrest of Richardson and his extradition back to North Carolina," the release said.

Richardson had been taken into custody at an airport in Maine.
