Son and dad charged after deadly shooting in Henderson, police say

HENDERSON, N.C. (WNCN) - Two people have been arrested after the deadly shooting of a man in Henderson late Saturday night, police said.

The incident was reported as an argument just before 10:40 p.m. in the 200 Block of Gary Street, Henderson police said in a news release.

Gunfire broke out during the fight and a 25-year-old man was shot, the news release said.

Jaylin Jones of Macon, North Carolina, died from his injuries, according to police.

Two suspects from Henderson were developed during the course of the investigation and they were later arrested, police said.

Scottie Lee Bates II, 21, of Stagecoach Road and his dad Scottie Lee Bates, 59, of Sims Avenue were charged.  

Police told CBS 17 they believe the younger Bates was the gunman in the incident.

The men are being held without bond. Their first court appearance is planned for Monday.
