Raleigh family displaced due to apartment fire

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) - A Raleigh family is displaced after an apartment fire, firefighters said Monday night.

An adult and three children who lived in the Schaub Drive apartment were not home when the fire call came in just after 9 p.m. Monday.

Heavy smoke was coming from their apartment when firefighters arrived. Other residents in the building quickly evacuated, but have since been allowed to return.

The apartment is heavily damaged, and one other unit seems to have smoke damage, officials said.

It's not clear how the fire started, but firefighters believe it may have began in a back bedroom.

The investigation continues. CBS 17 will update this story as more information becomes available.
