2nd kayaker dies in NC mountains in just 8 days

POLK COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA/WNCN) - The second deadly incident involving a kayaker in just over a week in the North Carolina mountains happened on Saturday, officials said.

A man drowned after kayaking in the Green River Narrows in Polk County Saturday afternoon.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 20-year-old Matthew Ray from Asheville.


Investigators say Ray was kayaking with friends when the incident occurred.

Another kayaker died in an incident in the Linville Gorge last weekend on Saturday, according to WBTV.

No information was available about the victim who died on April 28.
