Wayne County mom and son face heroin and meth charges

PIKEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) -- A Wayne County mom and son were busted on drug charges in their minivan last week, deputies say.

The incident happened Thursday when the drug unit of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office was conducting surveillance, officials said.

A white minivan then pulled into a parking space near the drug unit, deputies said in a news release.

"Officers observed what they believed to be illegal drug activity," the release said.

When the pair got out of the minivan, deputies said they conducted a "probable cause search" of the vehicle and the suspects themselves.

"(The search) resulted in the seizure of numerous items of illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia," deputies said.

Leslie Brown Williams, 56, and Chance Taylor Williams, 22, both of Forehand Road in Pikeville were arrested.

Leslie Williams was charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. Her son, Chance Williams, was charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The pair were placed in the Wayne County Jail on a $2,000 secured bond each.
