Melissa Le Fevre is delighted to join the CBS 17 Storm Team and call Raleigh home.
Melissa can be seen every Saturday and Sunday morning on CBS 17 This Morning.”
For almost five years, Melissa was the weekday morning and midday meteorologist at ABC 13, serving the Lynchburg-Roanoke community. With a cup of coffee and a smile, she helped viewers plan their day and was a constant source of information when severe or active weather was in the area.
She fell in love with weather at an early age. Growing up, Melissa would practice giving weather forecasts on her back deck. In 7th grade, she decided to pursue a career in meteorology. Melissa remembers those who helped fuel her passion along the way, and her ultimate goal is to be a positive influence on the younger generation and the community she serves.
Melissa attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences with Honor.
At Georgia Tech, she was a member of the prestigious Georgia Tech Honors Program and a member and officer of Students Observing and Researching Meteorology (StORM), the local American Meteorological Society (AMS) Georgia Tech student chapter. Melissa was also a participant in the Women, Science and Technology Program at Tech and a member of Alpha Gamma Delta.
While at Georgia Tech, Melissa interned at 11-Alive News, CNN and was a student assistant to the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
During her senior year, she participated in a professional internship at the National Weather Service Office in Peachtree City, Georgia. While there, she worked on a joint research project on cold air damming where her goal was to determine forecast verification for the office and various weather models and discover biases which would aid in future event forecasting.
Right after graduation, Melissa joined CNN as a meteorologist and weather producer, covering all major weather events in 2013. She worked for CNN, CNN International and HLN, forecasting both domestic and international weather. Along with forecasting short and long term weather conditions around the world, she produced weekday and weekend weather segments by creating all on-air graphics as well as contributing to online content.
After CNN, she moved to Charlotte and became the weekend meteorologist at FOX 46. Working throughout the weekend, she gave her viewers the information they needed as they headed out the door and the top weather headlines as the day came to a close. She also shot and edited her own weather and environmental stories.
Before joining ABC 13 in 2015, Melissa was an interim meteorologist at WAKA in Montgomery, Alabama. She is ready to bring her forecasting experience to the Triangle and looks forward to becoming a familiar face in the community both on and off the green screen.
In her spare time, Melissa loves to read and further her education, spend time outdoors, and of course take care of her constant canine companion, Humphrey Bogart.
She is also an extreme sports fan! Melissa loves baseball, football, golf, basketball and NASCAR. Her teams include the Atlanta Braves, Hawks, Falcons and her Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Melissa is a member of the American Meteorological Society and is here to answer all your weather questions!
