
Russ Bowen joins the CBS17 team after anchoring and reporting at KOMO-TV in Seattle.
Originally from Plymouth, Russ is excited to return the Tar Heel State. He graduated from UNC-Wilmington with a degree in Communication Studies with a concentration in Journalism and a second degree from UNC-Greensboro, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Russ started his professional career at WCTI in New Bern, where he worked in the bureau in Jacksonville and covered Camp Lejeune. Russ, having grown up in Eastern North Carolina, was used to evacuating from hurricanes – but now, as a reporter, he was in the middle of the storm four times as hurricanes swept across North Carolina in his first year on the job.
He then spent nearly 13 years working at WLOS in Asheville. He started in the bureau in Waynesville before moving to Asheville to report and anchor.
Then he headed to the Pacific Northwest, where Russ worked at KOMO-TV as a reporter and anchor.
Russ is a 10-time Emmy Award winner and 27-time nominee, including winning several as a writer and reporter. He has won four N.C. Associated Press awards. He has been honored by the North Carolina Chapter of Mother’s Against Drunk Drivers and Veteran’s of Foreign Wars.
