Taniya Wright is excited to make the Triangle her home as she joins the CBS17 morning news team.
Prior to moving to North Carolina, Taniya was a Morning and Midday Anchor at KJRH in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the Midday and 5 pm Anchor at WHAG in Hagerstown, Maryland. In addition to her on screen experience, Taniya has more than six years of experience behind the scenes as a Producer at WFLA back in her hometown of Tampa, Florida.
Taniya learned at an early age the importance of community service and involvement. She continues to embrace those lessons by actively supporting several national and local charitable organizations.
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation is an organization that ensures full financial assistance to the surviving children of our Military’s Special Operators killed in the line of duty. As a Gold Star Family member and a recipient of one of these scholarships, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation is very near to her heart. Whenever she can, she speaks at SOWF events across the United States.
Taniya is also very passionate about animals. She has spearheaded many fundraising efforts to help animals in Oklahoma and Maryland. Keeping true to those early lessons about involvement, she does not just talk the talk, she participates. Over the years she has raised thousands of dollars for local animal shelters by braving the icy waters and taking a chilly dip for the annual Polar Plunge event.
Being an avid fan of college basketball, it is highly likely that you may see Taniya attending a local college basketball game. Taniya also enjoys spending her free time attending local theatre, Broadway musicals, traveling, and staying fit by cycling and running. She has completed more than a dozen half marathons.
In 2011, she was lucky enough to run in the world famous New York City Marathon.
Taniya attended the University of South Florida where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority and the Order of Omega honor society. She graduated from USF with a degree in Mass Communications. Go Bulls!!
