NC-based humanitarian group set to donate 10,000 masks to UNC Health

Coronavirus

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A North Carolina-based humanitarian group is expected to donate 10,000 masks to UNC Health on Wednesday morning, according to a press release from the hospital system.

Samaritan’s Purse, an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization based in Boone, is set to deliver a truck full of masks to UNC Health. The donation is one of the largest UNC Health has received since they solicited donations this past Sunday, UNC Health officials said.

Both UNC Health and WakeMed asked for donations of masks, gloves and other medical supplies earlier this week. The community responded quickly and continues to do so.

“UNC Health caregivers are grateful for the outpouring of support from schools, businesses, community organizations and individuals. So far, we’ve collected more than 30,000 donated masks,” the release states.

Samaritan’s Purse also released a statement on the donation:

Samaritan’s Purse is thankful to be able to donate 10,000 masks to the UNC Health system to support their medical team as they fight COVID-19. These are some of the 55,000 total masks we are currently supplying to North Carolina health facilities. Please continue to pray for those who are suffering from the disease and for the medical personnel working on the front lines to fight the global pandemic.”
