The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a Fairmont home around 5:15 a.m. Sunday after an alarm went off.
Inside, they found 78-year-old Annie Grace Davis. Investigators believe she was killed by a robber.
“Davis appeared to have been stabbed during the burglary,” deputies said in a news release.
Around 2 p.m. Sunday, deputies arrested Jonathan Martin Oliver, 27, of Hwy 41 South in Fairmont.
Oliver is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Deputies said that Oliver “grew up in the community and was familiar with Davis.”
After the deadly robbery, the suspect left the home walking on Primrose Drive toward Hwy 130 East and Wiregrass Road, deputies said.
Oliver is being held in the Robeson County Detention Center without a bond.
