Two people arrested on assault charges Tuesday are now charged in connection with human trafficking.
On Tuesday, The Davidson Police Department, with the assistance of Homeland Security (HSI), began an investigation at the Luxury Nail Salon on the 600 block of Jetton Street. Tien Luong, 34, and Nip Mihn Tsi, 36, were both charged with felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury.
On Thursday, Luong and Mihn were additionally charged with human trafficking, involuntary servitude, and conspiracy.
Both suspects were taken to the Mecklenburg County Jail.
There is no word on what may have led to any of the charges.
Davidson police say the investigation is still “highly sensitive” and no further information is being released at this time.
Davidson residents told WBTV they were very surprised to hear about the serious allegations.
“Man, it was amazing, man. I ain’t never heard of anything like that around here in Davidson,” said Davidson resident Everett Reid.
Reid works as a chef at the Char-Grill restaurant in the Davidson Commons shopping center. The restaurant is in the same complex as the salon.
The cook said he had seen police at the salon earlier in the week, but wasn’t sure what was happening.
“I ain’t know what was going on, man. It was just amazing. I hardly ever see anything like that in Davidson,” said Reid.
Kristen Coupal, a Davidson resident shopping at Davidson Commons, was not happy to hear about the accusations.
“(I’m) terrified I would say more than anything, but angry too. I’d like to know what’s going to be done about it,” said Coupal.
The salon closed at 7 p.m. Thursday, but people could be seen inside the business later in the evening. The salon is scheduled to open up again Friday morning at 9 a.m.
