DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Durham police are investigating two separate shootings that happened minutes apart in downtown Durham Tuesday night.
The first shooting occurred just after 11 p.m. in the 500 block of Liberty Street, police said. The victim was shot in the chest and their injuries appear to be non-life threatening. The scene has since been cleared.
The second shooting was reported just minutes later, around 11:15 p.m., in the 100 block of S. Elm Street. The victim in that shooting has life-threatening injuries. A dark-colored vehicle was seen leaving the scene and is believed to have been occupied by two men, police said.
South Elm Street was closed from Angier Avenue to E. Main Street for more than six hours. Officers had been on scene for hours taking photos of items in a car parked at a house on S. Elm Street near the intersection with Angier Avenue, near Edgemont Park.
While the shootings were less than a mile from each other and occurred around the same time, police said they don’t have any reason to believe they were connected.
