HOLLISTER, N.C. (WNCN) – The family of Faith Hedgepeth is still no closer to having closure nearly four years after the UNC student was murdered.

The 19-year-old was found beaten to death inside of her Chapel Hill apartment on Sept. 7, 2012.

And to this day, her murder remains unsolved.RELATED: Killer of UNC’s Hedgepeth left profane note, police say

“She was a great person, an awesome student,” said Faith’s sister Rolanda Hedgepeth.

Every September brings a somber reminder to the Warren County family.

Rolanda Hedgepeth said time heals nothing.

“The pain is still the same as it was four years ago,” Rolanda Hedgepeth said. “You just adapt and go on with life cause you have to.”

Faith Hedgepeth’s body was found in her Chapel Hill apartment bedroom. An autopsy revealed she died from a severe beating to her head.

“You have people walking around who have done this to her and they think they’ll get away with it. They walk around living their lives when they stole hers,” Rolanda Hedgepeth said.

Chapel Hill police are looking to bring whoever is responsible to justice.

In the last year, Rolanda Hedgepeth said a new lead investigator has been assigned to the case.

“We were just used to the certain detectives at first. But sometimes fresh eyes are better,” she said.

For now, the Hedgepeth family can only wait and remain optimistic that they will get justice for Faith.

“It’s just a matter of time,” Rolanda Hedgepeth said.

In just a couple of weeks, hundreds of people will come to nearby Halifax County for an event honoring Faith’s life and raising money for scholarships in her name, the “Faith’s Smile Scholarship.”

Those scholarships will go to two Native American college freshmen.

Hedgepeth was a member of the Haliwa-saponi tribe.

Chapel Hill police are offering a $40,000 reward to help solve this case.
