CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after a 5-year-old child and woman were shot inside a home in Steele Creek.
It happened around 4:30 Sunday morning on Glory Meadow Court.
Medic took the woman and child to the hospital for their injuries.
The woman was shot in the arm and the child was shot in the leg. Both of their injuries are not life-threatening.
Neighbor Matt Williamson said when he reviewed the neighborhood on his security cameras, he was surprised by the scene he saw on his street.
“I think there ended up being like five police cars out here,” said Williamson.
Police, fire and EMS responded to the home in Steele Creek for a deadly weapon call.
Sue Stuckey lives in the house right across from where police responded.
She said she was not surprised by the violence because she has heard arguments coming from her neighbor’s house since they moved in.
“The only time you hear them is when they’re fighting,” said Stuckey. “It’s really sad when kids get involved.”
Neighbor Holly Scruggs said her kids played with the victim’s family at a Halloween party the victim hosted.
“They loved it and they were so hospitable,” said Scruggs. “Every kid got a huge big jar of candy.”
Williamson says his own son is 4 years old, and this violence in the neighborhood has caused alarm for his family’s safety.
“It’s pretty shocking. We didn’t hear anything and nothing has ever happened in this neighborhood like this,” said Williamson.
Stuckey said while quiet is the norm in the neighborhood, she was not surprised by the incident coming from her neighbor’s home.
“Normally this neighborhood is very quiet. It’s very quiet around here. Except for them,” said Stuckey. “What upset me was the child. That little guy is going to go through some trauma.
Police are searching for a suspect now. They brought out K-9 units to search but do not yet have anyone in custody.
