ROBBINS, N.C. (WNCN) – Moore County deputies busted a massive marijuana growing operation in the Robbins area of the county, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office reported.

On November 5, investigators executed a search warrant at a home on Bellview Road in Robbins.

The search warrant was part of a larceny-of-power investigation from Randolph Electric Membership Corporation, officials said. Officials eventually discovered that someone had installed a 700-pound transformer to siphon power from the grid.

Deputies found a “large elaborate” indoor marijuana growing operation.

A total of 109 marijuana plants were seized weighing 606 pounds.

Deputies also found growing lights, fans, carbon dioxide cylinders, electric transformers, electric capacitors, fertilizer and other items used in the agricultural process, officials said.CLICK TO VIEW MUGSHOTS FROM ACROSS NC

“This was the most sophisticated indoor growing operation that deputies have ever found in Moore County,” said Sheriff Neil Godfrey.

The street value of the marijuana is estimated at $2,121,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

Jose Ginante Aliaga, 25, of Asheboro was arrested in connection with the bust.

Aliaga was charged with:

  • Trafficking of marijuana
  • Manufacturing of marijuana
  • Felony possession of marijuana
  • Felony maintaining a dwelling to store a controlled-substance
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Felony larceny
  • Property damage

Aliaga was transported to the Moore County Detention Center under a $200,000 secured bond.

He’s scheduled to appear in court November 22.

More arrests are expected, the sheriff’s office said.
