RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Rookie Jaccob Slavin scored in the fourth round of the shootout, and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Ottawa Senators 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Jeff Skinner scored twice for Carolina, including one with 0.2 seconds remaining to force overtime, and Jay McClement had a short-handed goal.

Cam Ward made 21 saves for the Hurricanes, who won a shootout for the first time this season. They’ve earned points in three straight.

Zack Smith, Mark Stone and Ryan Dzingel scored for the Senators, who have lost five of seven.

Andrew Hammond made 34 saves for Ottawa, but Slavin beat him high with a backhand in the tiebreaker. Ward then stopped Smith to end it.
