Carrboro police end standoff with gunman barricaded in apartment

Carrboro police have take a man in custody after the armed man barricaded himself in an apartment on Friday afternoon.

The incident was reported just after 2 p.m. as a “suicidal subject” at 112 N.C 54 Bypass, which is the Berkshire Manor West apartments, according to Carrboro police.

Police said just before 6 p.m that they had the man in custody, but no other details were immediately released.

Police initially tried to make contact with the man at the door, but he did not respond, officials said

The man, who had a firearm, was alone and had made demands while refusing to come out of the apartment, police said.

No shots were fired and police negotiators were at the scene.

Before he was taken into custody, the last contact with the man was around 4:30 p.m., police said.
