RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Surveillance video shows that masked man with a crowbar inside Raleigh Metal Recycling. He’s trying to break into the ATM that is on site.

But it’s no use — minutes later you see the suspect’s arms go up … and police with guns drawn come in.

The attempted theft happened just before 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Police now identifying the suspect as 27- year old Robert Henderson.

“We get quite a few people a day that come to us and people know. So they mistakenly thought they could get into the machine, which are heavily armored with steel and after heavily armored steel there’s an enormous safe within that,” said Greg Brown, owner of Raleigh Metal Recycling.

Brown says the suspected burglar triggered the security alarm when he first forced his way in … clearly ignoring the signs that remind people they’re on camera.

But this isn’t the first time this local business has been targeted. Back in August of 2014 two men wearing company uniforms beat and robbed Brown at gunpoint.

“It wasn’t a great thing to be honest. But you know its people do dumb things and these guys try to rob us and they just weren’t able to,” Brown said.

Brown learned from that experience. He now makes sure none of his employee are ever there alone. Brown is now hoping this latest incident serves as a lesson for any would be burglar.
