CBS North Carolina (WNCN), Raleigh’s local Nexstar television station and news team, today announced the business’ rebrand to CBS 17. The sweeping rebrand includes a new logo, new set, new website design, new on-air graphics, and additional experienced journalists.
“When WNCN came under Nexstar’s ownership last year, we embarked on a new mission to become the best and most dynamic resource in the market for unmatched reporting on local breaking news, weather, sports and major event coverage,” says Vice President and General Manager Byron Grandy. “To achieve that goal, we renewed the station’s commitment to the local communities, hometown businesses and public organizations we serve across Central North Carolina by building CBS 17’s brand around the concept of, ‘Local News That Matters.’ This idea now serves not only as statement or a vision, but more importantly, as a guiding principle of who we are and who we want to continue to be for the viewers and customers we proudly serve each day.”
“The significant investment made to upgrade all aspects of our station’s local news programming, website platform and mobile apps is the latest example of how CBS 17 is delivering on our promise to provide exceptional cross-platform content and enhanced service,” Grandy continues, “We have a great new look, one that conveys strength and energy with more color, movement and a better user experience. A new News set and production capabilities allow us to go big when needed but also blend strong visual storytelling with our exceptional team of journalists. In addition, we launched a new and improved design for our station’s website that will provide a best-in-class user experience and increased engagement with our local content.”
The new website can be found at CBS17.com. The WNCN news and weather apps will also see a rebrand, which will arrive via update and will not require any additional action or installation from existing users.
The comprehensive CBS 17 rebrand (which coincides with the launch of CBS’s 2018 March Madness coverage) draws on the familiarity and strength of the station’s original roots in the market. Formerly an NBC affiliate (NBC 17), CBS 17 now combines their existing market legacy with #1 ranked CBS programming, sports coverage, and the local news and weather viewers have come to expect from Nexstar Media Group properties nationwide.
With the bold and sweeping changes launched today, CBS 17 continues to follow our commitment to provide the optimal news and entertainment experience for all viewers in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill-Fayetteville viewing area.
CBS 17 is owned and operated by Nexstar Media Group, Inc (NXST).
