NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) – An investigation is underway after the Craven County Sheriff’s Office said someone set fire to a body that was later found on the side of the road.
The Craven County Sheriff’s Office and the West New Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Beamon Road at 11:45 p.m. Monday.
The sheriff’s office found the body, which deputies said was burnt so badly they could not identify it.
They did determine the body was that of a male.
The SBI is assisting in the investigation, and the Sheriff’s Office is reaching out to the public for more information.
The body has been sent to Vidant Medical Center for an autopsy.
