SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KUCW) – Interstate 15 is shut down Thursday night due to a gasoline tanker fire and explosion.
Utah Highway Patrol says a double tanker caught fire on I-15 just south of 7200 South. The interstate is closed in both directions and crews work to get the scene cleared.
Video of the fire shows multiple explosions as the tanker burned. Troopers say the driver of the semi got out safely and so far, there have been no injuries reported.
Crews continue to work contain the fire and clear the scene. It’s not clear how long the freeway will be closed. Surface streets are seeing a considerable amount of congestion in the valley.
