LUMBERTON, N.C. (WNCN) – Funeral services for a well-known and loved command sergeant major from Fort Bragg who was killed in a weekend crash will take place Saturday afternoon.UPDATE: New charge filed in wreck that killed Fort Bragg officer on motorcycle

Lynn Edward Ratley, 47, who was born and raised in the Fayetteville area, died in a motorcycle crash Saturday, Jan 16.RELATED: Motorcyclist killed in crash was command sergeant major at Fort Bragg

Police said Justin Andrew Dunlap, 26, of Hope Mills, was driving a 2000 Honda southbound on Gillespie Street when he crossed the center median and crashed into Ratley’s motorcycle. Dunlap faces charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, and driving left of center.

Ratley was a command sergeant major in the 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion at Fort Bragg. He had two  daughters and two grandchildren.

“CSM Ratley’s loss has been devastating to our battalion,” said Battalion Commander, Lt. Colonel James Burk. “He was a larger than life professional and a dear friend.”

Ratley’s funeral will be held at the Robeson Community College Auditorium located at 5160 Fayetteville Road in Lumberton. A viewing is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m.

A burial service will take place Tuesday at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery on Murchison Road in Spring Lake.
