According to jail records, Marcella Jean Lee, 56, was arrested in the 1500 block of Bridge Barrier Road in Carolina Beach Thursday.

Officials say Lee’s mother, Arma Ann Roush, was found dead in a chest freezer on May 27 after Lee allegedly sold the appliance for $30 to one of her mother’s neighbors.RELATED: Human remains discovered in freezer, Goldsboro woman says

Lee told the buyer not to open the freezer because it was being used as a time capsule, officials say. The buyer eventually opened it and immediately called 911.

The medical examiner listed the cause of Roush’s death as unknown and said there were no signs of foul play. Goldsboro police issued felony warrants for Lee on June 2.

Lee is charged with concealing/failure to report a death and was booked in the New Hanover County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
