16 new flu deaths reported in NC; 52 for season

Health Alert

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – North Carolina health officials announced 16 new flu-related deaths for the past week with a total of 52 deaths for the season.

The Department of Health and Human Services says the best way to prevent the flu is to get the flu shot.

  • Vaccination is still the best protection available
  • Wash your hands
  • Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze
  • If you are sick, stay home from work and keep your kids home from school if they are sick so it does not spread
  • If you do become sick with the flu, there are antiviral medications you can speak about with your doctor
