RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The latest update from North Carolina health officials says nine more people died from the flu in early March.

The latest statistics show that those deaths occurred between March 3 and March 9.

The report also shows that 135 people have now died across the state during flu season, which began Sept. 30, 2018.

North Carolina health officials encourage everyone to get vaccinated.

  • Vaccination is still the best protection available
  • Wash your hands
  • Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze
  • If you are sick, stay home from work and keep your kids home from school if they are sick so it does not spread
  • If you do become sick with the flu, there are antiviral medications you can speak about with your doctor
