KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (WNCN) – A Knightdale family is starting over after a fire destroyed their home Thursday afternoon.
Homeowner Daniel Nourie said the fire started when he was doing some cleaning on his deck around 3 p.m. trying to remove a power wheel that had been stuck.
“I had the bad idea, obviously, of trying to melt down the wheel to get it out, which it worked, but the melted plastic came back and hit my hand and so I looked back and there was no fire,” he said.
It didn’t take long for the home to catch fire.
“About 10 minutes later, the whole back deck had caught on fire and we had kids upstairs. We had the dog, my wife was up there and she just started screaming get out,” he said.
Everyone made it out of the home but the home is a total loss.
While the family is picking up the pieces and starting from scratch, help is already on the way.
A neighbor started a website for the family to raise money and gather donations.
Support has been pouring in since the fire.
Green Pines Baptist Church is also collecting money and gift cards.
“It’s just an amazing community and an amazing group of people and it’s really what’s helped get us through this,” said Nourie.
The family does have insurance on the home.
