HVAC unit stolen from Sanford Boys and Girls Club

SANFORD, N.C. (WNCN) – A Boys and Girls Club in Sanford was left without any air conditioning after an HVAC unit was stolen from the club.

The unit was reported stolen on Wednesday from the Boys and Girls Club on Church Street. It was the club’s only unit and they relied on it for air conditioning.

“Summer camps starts in a couple weeks and we’re going to be running 12 hour days with kids there all day,” said CEO Daniel Simmons. “I was just really, really shocked that someone would take an air conditioning unit from a club.”

However, as soon as the unit was reported stolen, the club got an outpouring of support from the community, Simmons said.

Several fans were donated to the club and the Sanford Housing Authority, who owns the building, installed two window air conditioning units the club can use until the club’s insurance company can provide a new unit.

“Until we had the units installed in the windows today, we had no air,” said Simmons. “We have after school programs here this week and we needed air. It’s a pretty quick response, so it’s impressive and we’re really grateful for it. I think it says a lot about the community here.”

If you have any information about the theft, you’re asked to call the Sanford Police Department.
