‘Late Show’ host brings Carolina barbecue debate to Republican National Convention

News

CLEVELAND (WNCN) – Late night talk show host Stephen Colbert is gearing up for two weeks of live broadcasts from the Republican and Democratic Conventions.

The CBS North Carolina crew covering the convention in Cleveland ran into Colbert as he hit the floor of the Quicken Loans Arena Sunday.

When asked about North Carolina, Colbert didn’t say a word about politics, but his comments may hit home as being controversial nonetheless.

“North Carolina, I love you,” Colbert said, “but I’m sorry that barbecue is not as good as South Carolina.”

If you are wondering why Colbert is dressed like a character from “‘The Hunger Games,” it’s part of a long-running gag on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

The comedian calls it “‘The Hungry for Power Games” and uses it to poke fun at politicians.

You can catch “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” weeknights at 11:35 on CBS North Carolina.
