Arrest made in weekend beating death in Rocky Mount

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) — A man has been charged in the beating death of a Rocky Mount man over the weekend, police said Friday.

Police found 37-year-old David Sandoval, who had been attacked, around midnight Saturday. He died in the road in front of his home along King James Court, police said.

Victor Hernandez was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree murder, police said Friday afternoon.

Hernandez is being held on a $2 million bond.

Police said they were not sure of Hernandez’ age.

Friends and family say Sandoval’s mother lives in Honduras and he worked hard at a roofing company to send her money.

“He loved everybody,” said Ventura Rivera. “He would stay here and work all the time and go without food if he had to – to send home to his mama that’s sick.”

Before finding Sandoval, Rocky Mount police say they responded to a call at King James Court about disorderly conduct.

Sandoval died on the road in front of his home.

Friends say he had been renovating it and was getting ready to move in.

“He would show me sneak peek pictures,” said Sandoval’s friend, Tammie Anayasamdana. “He would never let me go in there until he got it completely done and still to this day I’ve never walked in there.”

“Just want everyone to pray for his mother in Honduras,” said Anaysamdana. “She’s very bad off.”

“And pray for his family here,” said Ventura Rivera.

No other info was released by police Friday.
