SHANNON, N.C. (WNCN) — Investigators in Hoke County are working to learn who killed a 17-year-old boy.
Hoke County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Balfour Road just before 10 a.m. Saturday after neighbors found the body of Jon-Marvin Revels Jacobs.
Ron Maynor recalls finding Jacobs’s body in a ditch in front of his home.
“It’s just upsetting, that early in the morning,” Maynor said. “I thought it was someone who may have laid down, got too drunk or something. But when I was out there, I noticed there had been some trauma to him, so I dialed 911.”
Deputies said Jacobs was shot while walking home from a party, and suffered trauma to the upper portion of his body.
Maynor and his grandson knew Jacobs.
“He was always very polite, seemed kind of quiet, and he carried himself well,” Jacobs said. “It’s a tragedy. It shakes you up pretty good.”
Timothy Locklear is taking the news of his best friend’s death hard.
He said Jacobs was a good friend and a good student beloved by many, especially throughout the neighborhood.
“It’s just hurtful, you can’t just watch somebody like that you’ve known all of your life,” Jacobs said. “He had a lot of potential. He just turned 17, and I just put my prayers out to his family.”
“I just talked to this kid yesterday evening, and he was explaining then that he would be glad when he graduated high school,” Timothy’s father, Falonda Locklear said. “So to talk to him last night, and wake up this morning to find him in a ditch, that touches your heart.”
They hope Jacobs and his family get justice soon.
“Young people need to be aware that they need to be careful, and whoever did this, I hope it bothers them enough that they turn themselves in,” Maynor said.
Detectives are pursuing all leads.
