Officers were dispatched just 1:30 a.m. to the 100 block of Drake Street regarding numerous reports of shots fired in that area.

Once on scene, officers located a man inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound.

Donald McNeil, 41, of the 3800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Lumberton died in the shooting.

Bryan Charles Hunt, 38, 6500 block of Long Branch Drive in Lumberton was later arrested in the death.

Hunt was charged with voluntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a felon.
