Fayetteville neighborhood complains as Florence debris continues to accumulate

Cumberland County News

Flooded debris from Hurricane Florence is still lining the streets in Fayetteville, but some residents say people are illegally dumping the trash in their neighborhoods.

People who live in the Hollywood Heights neighborhood say part of it is turning into illegal dumping grounds.

They say people are bringing storm debris and leaving it at the curve in front of houses where no one lives.

“It’s a train wreck, and if somebody doesn’t stop it, it’s gonna be a bigger issue, and that’s gonna be rats and snakes, which puts people in harms way of environmental issues,” said Hollywood Heights resident Quancidine Gribble.

City leaders say illegal dumping has been a big problem, but sometimes they can’t tell where the trash came from, but they say they’ll continue to pick it up when people report problems.
