Fayetteville Police Department detectives have made an arrest in connection with a 1989 rape cold case, a release said on Monday.
Antonio L. McNeil, 55, of the 2300 block of Slater Avenue is charged with second-degree rape, second-degree sex offense, and first-degree kidnapping, the release said.
The rape occurred on Nov. 22, 1989, but went unsolved. It was recently reopened by the Fayetteville Police Department’s Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit after the sexual-assault kit was sent off for DNA testing.
McNeil was already being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center on unrelated charges.
Detectives took him before a magistrate at the detention center Monday to serve him with the latest charges, the release said.
He’s being held on a $400,000 secured bond.
The arrest was made possible because of a national grant.
