FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A man living in Florida has been arrested in connection with a 1990 cold case rape in Fayetteville.

Wilbur D. McGill, 54, of Orange Park, Florida was apprehended by U.S. Marshals after Fayetteville police said a DNA sample connected him to the rape.

On Nov. 20, 1990, the victim reported she was at Mazarick Park with her 1-year-old child when a suspect forced her to the back of the park and raped her.

The suspect then stole the victim’s vehicle, police said.

The rape was investigated at the time but in Nov. 2017, detectives discovered DNA from the 1990 crime scene had been linked to a suspect, police said.

McGill faces charges of first-degree rape, first-degree kidnappings, robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a motor vehicle, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

McGill is currently being held in Orange County, Florida pending extradition to Cumberland County.
