FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WNCN) — A Fort Bragg Green Beret received a huge honor last week.
The soldier has received one of the army’s highest awards, after rescuing a man from a burning car before it exploded.
Sgt. 1st Class Erik Kingsley received the U.S. Army Soldier’s Medal during a ceremony at Fort Bragg on Thursday.
Kingsley was driving to RDU Airport early on the morning of April 1, when he saw a car in a ditch.
Kingsley got the unconscious driver out moments before the car exploded.
He then gave the driver medical attention until EMS got to the scene.
Members of Kingsley’s family were at the ceremony last week.
The Soldier’s Medal is awarded to any member of the Armed Forces who distinguishes themselves by heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy.
