Gun taken to high school, juvenile arrested, Cumberland County officials say

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Cumberland County authorities said that gun was taken to a high school Tuesday morning.

The incident took place at Jack Britt High School and the gun was recovered, according to a news release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

A juvenile was taken into custody at the school at 7403 Rockfish Road, the news release said.

Deputies are continuing to investigate the incident.

Cumberland County School officials released a statement about the incident:

As always, we strive to provide a safe learning environment for our students and staff. Earlier today, school officials discovered that a student brought a weapon on campus at Jack Britt High School. Due to the quick response of individuals within the school and the response of law enforcement, the weapon was seized and the suspect was apprehended. 

We take this matter very seriously. We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement and appropriate actions will be taken.
