Man charged in shooting death of 16-year-old girl in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) - Fayetteville police have charged and arrested a 21-year-old in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old high school student, according to a news release.

Breaunna Brown, 16, died in a shooting that occurred Wednesday along the 1000 block of Wood Creek Drive.

Timothy Swinson-Willis, 21, is charged with one count of involuntary manslaughter, officials said. 

Brown was a former student at Westover High School. "We extend our heartfelt sympathy to her family," the school said in a statement.

Police said they believe Brown and Swinson-Willis knew each other. Swinson-Willis is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond, the release said.
