FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — A 63-year-old pawn shop worker was shot in what Fayetteville police believe was a possible attempted robbery Saturday night, officers said.
The incident was reported as an “alarm call” just before 8:25 p.m. at Bragg Pawn Shop, located at 5034 Yadkin Road, according to a news release from Fayetteville police.
According to the release, the worker, identified as Ronald Ruple, was closing for the night when he heard a noise near a fenced area outside the business. As he walked towards the noise, a man began running towards him and firing shots. Ruple sustained a gunshot wound to the leg but managed to draw his personal weapon and fire back at the suspect.
The suspect then fled into the woodline behind the business and Ruple hid inside the business.
Ruple was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition Saturday night, police said.
“The preliminary investigation reveals that this was possibly an attempted robbery,” the news release said.
The suspect is described as a black male, between 6’1″ and 6’3″ tall, possibly in his late 20’s, with a skinny build and a short curly afro hairstyle. He was wearing a dark hoodie, jeans and green and white sneakers.
