FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Several gunmen behind a string of robberies that stretch across four counties are still on the run, officials say.
Police say in the last two weeks, at least four of the robberies happened in Fayetteville. The Little Caesars on Raeford Road was one of them.
“They came in Friday night, came through the store, came in with guns,” said Little Caesar’s General Manager Sawyer Lewis.
Lewis says when the two gunmen walked in, his assistant manager was still inside and the store still open for business.
Lewis says no one got hurt, but the gunmen got away with cash from the store.
“They’re out there, it could happen anywhere, not just this store,” said Lewis.
It was more than that store. Police say armed robberies also happened at the Short Stop convenience store, and two different Circle K’s in Fayetteville alone.
“The robberies occurred all the way from Johnston, Harnett, Cumberland, here in Fayetteville and then in Robeson County,” said Fayetteville Police Officer Jeremy Strickland.
Since the robberies, police are trying to track down two men who are wanted for questioning in connection with the crimes.
“The businesses are the target at this point, but we don’t want it to spread to individuals getting caught up in anything,” said Strickland.
In the meantime, workers are taking extra steps so they don’t become a target again.
“We lock the doors and try to look out,” said Lewis.
