The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect in the sexual assault of two women has killed himself.
A news release said 40-year-old Jeffrey Miles Jacops, of Hope Mills, was found dead Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“When Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes detectives arrived on scene, they noticed the decedent matched the description of the suspect in the sexual assaults,” the release read.
An investigation revealed Jacops owned a Harley Davidson motorcycle matching the suspect’s. On Monday, a “photographic line up confirmed the decedent was the suspect that was assaulting women on the North Carolina Highway 301 Corridor,” the release said.
The sheriff’s office said Jacops had been asking women if they needed a ride on his motorcycle, then he’d take them to a secluded area next to Highway 301 to sexually assault and beat them.
There were at least two reports of those sexual assaults, officials said.
No further information was released.
