Windshields smashed after bricks, bucket thrown from Fayetteville overpass

Cumberland County News

Two drivers are not hurt after police say someone threw a brick and a bucket of paint straight into a busy highway in Fayetteville.

Police say the people behind it were on the overpasses above Martin Luther King Freeway or Highway 87. Police say when someone threw the brick Thursday, it hit a car and smashed a woman’s windshield.

A few days earlier someone threw paint off the bridge and it hit another woman’s windshield.

Police are still trying to find the people behind it, something that has other drivers worried.

“I would freak out if I were driving. That’s something that could potentially cause another accident,” said driver Alex Gephart.

“I’m not sure how I would react if I drove up there and I actually saw them, I’d probably be pretty angry,” said driver Ronald Prater.

Police say one of the victims did get a look at the people who did this.

“It does appear to be some younger males we’re looking for and it’s possibly two to three individuals at this time,” said Fayetteville Police Sgt. Shawn Strepay.

Police are warning drivers to look for anyone hanging around the bridges holding rocks or bricks, and call 911 if you see anything suspicious.
