Woman driver charged in bicyclist’s death in Fayetteville, police say

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Fayetteville police have charged a driver in a wreck that killed a bicyclist earlier this week.

The wreck happened Wednesday near the intersection of Rim Road and Sandra Street, according to a news release from Fayetteville police.

Michael J. Jones, 56, of the 7600 block of Jericho Drive, died at the scene of the crash, police said.

The deadly crash happened as the driver of a 2013 Kia Optima was traveling North on Rim Road, then crossed the center line and hit Jones’ bicycle, according to the news release. 

Jones was traveling north along the shoulder of the southbound lane.

Natasha Dalrymple-Wakeit, 36, of the 4800 block of Cellner Drive has been charged with driving left of center, and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

No other information was released by police.
