The incident was discovered at Windsor Park just before 11:30 a.m.

Police say a passerby found the woman's body just a few yards away from where kids play and take the bus.

The passerby called 911 about an unresponsive woman in a ditch near the playground.

"We don't know if she was shot or stabbed or what so just imagine a child's reaction if they would've seen it," said neighbor Natasha Morris.

Other neighbors say the woman looked like she'd been beaten to death, but police are not yet releasing a cause, only that what happened to her is "suspicious."

"The death is suspicious, at this point, but because every death is investigated as a homicide when we get it," said Fayetteville Police Officer Jeremy Strickland.

Police are still trying to find who might be behind what happened to her. There are no arrests or suspects yet.

The name of the victim is currently being withheld until her immediate family can be notified.

Anyone with any information regarding the death is asked to contact Detective C. Crews with the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 741-1046 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).  Crimestoppers information can also be submitted electronically by visiting and completing the anonymous online tip sheet, or by downloading the FREE “P3 Tips” app available for Apple devices in the Apple App Store and available for Android devices in Google Play.
