70-year-old man critically injured in Durham pedestrian crash, police say

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A pedestrian was critically injured when he was hit by a car Tuesday night in Durham, according to a news release.

The crash happened around 7:45 p.m. on West Cornwallis Road near Charles Street, the release said.

Tommy Rogers, 70, of Durham was attempting to cross West Cornwallis Street. A Kia Optima driven by Aailyah Jackson, 23, of Chapel Hill struck Rogers, the release said.

Rogers was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Jackson wasn’t injured, and neither speed nor alcohol played a part in the crash, investigators said.

No charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing, the release said.
