All clear given in Durham after suspicious package forces evacuation of police headquarters

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Durham police are investigating a suspicious package that was dropped off at their headquarters downtown, according to a tweet from the department.

Police said in the tweet that the package was dropped off by an “unknown person over the weekend.”

A “Hazardous Devices Unit” robot was on the scene and the building had to be evacuated.

Those downtown are being asked to avoid Main Street at Elizabeth Street and Main Street at Hood Street.

Durham police told CBS 17 that they had no further information to release other than what they have tweeted out.
