DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) - A child playing with a lighter ignited a house fire that heavily damaged a home in Durham Monday morning, officials said.
Durham firefighters were dispatched to a home on Angier Avenue around 2:15 a.m. Responding units reported seeing flames coming from the front of the home.
Durham fire officials said the fire was put out quickly but not before the home was badly damaged throughout the house.
Officials said a child playing with a lighter started the fire.
No one was injured and the Red Cross is helping the two adults and three children displaced by the fire.
Durham fire officials urge you to keep matches and lighters out of a child's reach.
